Let me start off my saying I use to live in Texas, and most of my family is still there. I am fond of their government, but the state is a bit dull if you love the outdoors, so I left.
Used by any person the Filibuster is essentially a tactic designed to stop the voice of others. Using rules of engagement on the legislative floor you seize control, and refuse to share that control, so long as your body allows and you don’t break the rules.
The political overtones of abortion are always extreme, and it seems a Jedi master level battle just to not cut off your own tongue when discussing the merits of each side of the argument.
With out getting in to the good or bad of abortion, I can say that I believe this woman is a zealot, who will fight tooth and nail for what she believes in, and only in what she believes in. If her views match yours perfectly then good God vote for her. If you disagree with her about even one issue then she is not for you. She claims to empower the voice of the people, but her voice is not mine, or my families. She stopped the law in question from being passed because she ran out the timer. The bill was passed, but because it happened after midnight because of her filibuster and 15-20 minutes of booing from her supporters that made the legislative process impossible, and the voices of those who were not her constituents were silenced. Voices should be heard, and we heard hers and her constituencies all day long, while no other voices were allowed, and this is not an acceptable tactic.
I must at this point also point out the hypocrisy that is the left view. This woman exploded in popularity, was commended in her efforts by the POTUS and basically has been deemed the new she god of Texas. While Senator Ted Cruz’s 21 hour quasi filibuster crushed Wendy Davis’s attempt at 11 hours, he has basically been demonized for trying to do the same thing that Davis did.
I truly believe that this legislative maneuver should be removed, we should have caps on speaking times, so that every voice can be heard equally.
