Today an epic event occurred, Obama folded, that’s what all the news reports said, but its not true.
WASHINGTON — President Obama bowed to mounting political pressure from across the country and on Capitol Hill on Thursday and announced new rules that will let insurance companies keep people on health care plans that would not have been allowed under the Affordable Care Act.
Faith in our government under Obama has hit a historic low, the democratic party is working hard to distance themselves from him, and he made changes (I am not sure how he is not congress, and I did not see an executive order on the issue) to the healthcare law, allowing a true-ish grandfathering in of plans. “The president’s plan would apply only to people who have had their existing policies canceled. Those currently without insurance would not be able to buy the old plans.”
I ask you, what about people like my wife who have passed their open enrollment period for the year, and have already changed plans because their previous plan had been discontinued? I mean this as a real question, would she be able to go back to her old plan, even though she has effectively changed it. Will you also force them to give it to her at the old price? “Changing the rules after health plans have already met the requirements of the law could destabilize the market and result in higher premiums for consumers,”
The law is a failure, poorly designed peace of s@#$ that helps no one. Not big business, not small business, not the rich, middle class, or the poor. Even Obama admits its a poorly designed law “The president said he did not intend to mislead Americans about whether they could keep their health insurance, but again expressed regret that his assurances turned out to be wrong. He attributed that to a poorly designed law.”
The big deal here, the tightrope we are walking on our path to a doomed healthcare system just got thinner, because believe it or not, THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT FIX. Even if nothing destabilizes and you get to keep your old plan at the same cost, its only for 1 more year. That’s right you heard it here.
Even the plan that the house is voting on tomorrow only extends your ability to keep your old insurance to 2014. It does nothing about the individual mandate, attacks on religious institutions, nor does it help bring millions into the fold who are being left out.
There are only 2 ways out of this crapshoot. One, a full reset, a complete repeal of Obamacare and every mandate included with it. Two, the government takes over completely and we move to a single payer system.
I have said more than once that the second option is what the democrats want for sure, and probably a lot of republicans also. Why? Because it means power for the government. It means control of a significant chunk of American industry, and it means more tax revenue.
This “fix” does nothing but delay the inevitable, and possibly cause even more problems for American citizens. It is an attempt to save face for all the democrats who have time and time again voted for the ACA, and stall the real pain until after the elections in 2014.
Call your congressmen, your senators, your governors, you crazy local cat ladies, every one you can think of. Urge them to stand strong against this change, against Obama’s dictatorial actions, his waiving of this provision and that of many laws, and demand a full repeal of the ACA.
